We would like to share what one of our current M.S. students has to say about the Online Environmental Geology program! Dylan Harter will be graduating at the end of the summer 2025 term after completing his capstone project. Learn more about his experience in our program below:
As I approach the completion of the Master’s in Environmental Geology program at the University of Illinois, I can say with confidence that this Master’s program has equipped me with skills to better my career as a geologist in the environmental consulting field. I discovered UIUC’s Environmental Geology program when looking for a Master’s degree that both accommodated my full time career and offered the curriculum and skills I was interested in obtaining. The Environment Geology M.S. program went above and beyond my expectations and it has truly been a pleasure to be enrolled in the program. One of the most impactful courses was Professor Tom Johnson’s Isotope Hydrogeology course. His engaging approach to real-world isotope applications has introduced me to new ways of understanding fate and transport of contaminations in the subsurface. Professor Johnson’s engaging curriculum and examples of real-world applications of stable isotopes ultimately inspired my Capstone Project. The Capstone Project has been an incredibly rewarding experience, allowing me to apply the skills and knowledge to benefit the progress of a real-world environmental site. Throughout the project, I have had the privilege to work with Professor Johnson, whose guidance has been indispensable in helping me shape the project. The collaborative approach and guidance throughout the project have greatly influenced the practicality and robustness of this isotope-focused Capstone Project.Whether you are just starting out in the industry or have 15+ years of experience, for any environmental professionals looking to either advance their careers or gain additional knowledge, I highly recommend the Environmental Geology programs at UIUC. I am incredibly grateful for the course work I have had the opportunity to experience and the outstanding faculty at the University of Illinois.
